Vanderbilt is coming off a historically bad season. 0-18 in the SEC an 9-23 overall. They ended the year on a 20 game losing streak. 20. Surely they can only go up from here. After firing Bryce Drew, Vandy has hired Jerry Stackhouse to take over the reigns in Nashville.

Lets see what Vanderbilt is getting in their new head coach

Assistant Coach Experience

Toronto Raptors (2015-2016)

Memphis Grizzlies (2018-2019)

Head Coaching Experience

Raptors 905 (2016-2018)

Head Coach of the Raptors’ D-League team, Stackhouse left the NBA to take this job. In his very first season, the Raptors won the D-League championship. They could not repeat the next year, but Stackhouse was named the Coach of the Year.

Was this a good hire for Vanderbilt?

It does not seem like it. Stackhouse only has two years of head coaching experience and it is in the D-League. Is two seasons in the D-League enough to prove he can turn one of the worst college basketball programs around? The Grizzlies posted a combined 65-99 record over two years while Stackhouse was there. This is probably a risky hire that is not going to turn out the best. Do not get me wrong, Jerry was a fine player, but he has not proven himself to be ready for a SEC caliber coach yet.
