This is the type of stuff that makes rivalries so much fun.
Minnesota has been DOMINATED by Wisconsin in previous years. Before last year, Minnesota had not beaten the Badgers since 2003. To add insult to injury, the Badgers had won eight games in a row by double digits.
After a 35-17 beating in Madison this year, Minnesota ended that miserable stretch. So yes, the Gophers have every right to go on a ‘Paul Bunyan Axe Tour’.
This is ultra level of pettiness. You beat your rivals for the first time in over a decade and a half, and you are going to take the trophy on a tour through the entire state. Wisconsin fans still think that the trophy should belong to them.
The trophy has proven to be a tough cookie, going through some rough stretches to see all of the Minnesota fans.
If Minnesota wins this year, it will be the first time they have won back to back games against Wisconsin since 1993 and 1994. If they celebrated this hard for a win in Madison… Imagine the scene in Minneapolis.
